He is the uncreated Creator; He is the Sustainer of everything that exists. He exists by Himself and for Himself; He is utterly independent: He is not dependent on anything or anyone else. He is self-existing. He is! And He matters supremely! Whatever you need, whatever you lack, He is! Fill in the blank. What do you need? I am that!

What Is God’s Name?

I AM your sufficiency. Self-existent, self-reliant. And secondly, we see that this self-sufficient God is unchanging and unchangeable! He is never caught off-guard! He is the same yesterday, today and forever. This is so unlike us as creatures.

What Is God's Name?

We are continually changing, becoming. He keeps His promises. He can be trusted. We can depend on Him. He never changes! And then this great I AM is eternal. He always was. He always will be. We change. Everything changes. But God is the eternal I AM. We are needy; He is self-sufficient. We are born and we die; God is ever-living—always was and always will be.

This personal, self-sufficient, unchanging, eternal God made Himself known to Moses and to His people. He promised to be with them. He promised to deliver them from their oppression, from their slavery. When Jesus came to this earth, was born in Bethlehem as a baby. He grew up. He became a man. The same God who delivered His people from captivity in Egypt was still alive! He was still at work in human history—fifteen-hundred years after this burning bush experience.

He was still redeeming and rescuing and saving His people! Seven of those statements are connected to a metaphor or an analogy. Remember the woman at the well, the Samaritan woman? This is in John chapter — When he comes, he will tell us all things.

He is the great I AM of Exodus chapter 3. He is the One who came to deliver His people, came down, sent from God, to deliver His people, to set them free! This is crucial to our Christian faith! It means everything. Jesus kept the third commandment perfectly. Jesus kept the third commandment in our place.

Jesus loved God perfectly. He had a perfect regard for Scripture.

God's Name is a Four-Letter Word

Every time he prayed, it mattered. He taught the truth about God. He spoke it. He lived by it even to the point of death.

He died for the truth. Jesus did all things as a representative of anyone who would trust him for salvation. If people trust Christ for salvation , they can have confidence that—even though they fail to keep the third commandment perfectly—God still accepts them. In fact, Christians have more reason to honor God. They know the God who is merciful and gracious. Jesus promised that the Spirit would be a helper John The apostle Paul put it this way:.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Saved by grace alone, God has set aside his people, Christians, to do good works. Through the Holy Spirit, we begin to obey—imperfectly, weakly, often failing. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Jehovah reveals the characteristic of God that personally reveals Himself to us, right in the middle of the trials, struggles and details of life. This is a characteristic you want to remember because it lets us know that we serve a very real and very personal God. He wants to be in a relationship with you!

What does Yahweh Mean?

In this compound connection of Jehovah with Jireh, God unveils Himself in a very personal manner. First you have to know that Isaac was extremely special to Abraham and represented a promise of God to him. However, God needed to know that Abraham would obey Him even when it was painful and hard to understand. Genesis tells us that God tested Abraham and told him to take his son to be sacrificed, which was clearly a contradiction.

Yet out of complete faith, Abraham obeyed and trusted that God would provide an answer to the difficult situation he faced. If you are not familiar with the details of this story, I encourage you to read Genesis In summary, God provided for Abraham after He saw his willingness to obey.
