One woman stood up, spoke up when she saw something happening that shouldn't be, but was soon dismissed. From there a story of trafficking and abuse unraveled and became a catalyst to an awakening in the US about the truth of sex trafficking occurring right under the noses of the American public.
It is an insight into cultural beliefs, dependence and poverty and one family's determination to exploit it for their personal gain. It is sad, makes you angry at injustice and ends with the perpetrator living free and with his wealth after serving a minimal sentence. As with most of these true cases there is rarely a happy ever after.
We should all be aware of this painful, shameful subject and do something about it. Very well written, shocking story of the courage to recognize and not be persuaded that it was really something else happening. This true story needs to be more widely read. Congratulations to the corageous author and th equally corageous publishing house.
