Beginning with advice on shopping for ingredients and further instructions on how to keep within your budget Kat Miller demonstrates expertise and a vast knowledge in more than just cooking. The book offers a selection of 10 main dishes and some sides and desserts with an extra guide to the dishes with regards to their suitability for vegetarians and for lactose or gluten intolerant readers.
The instructions for the di "Delicious Meals for 1. The instructions for the dishes are simple and easy to follow and kindly illustrated with a variety of photographs to see what the finished product should and could look like. Kat Miller has thought of everything and has included suggestions what to do with left overs, such as Risotto Cakes. As vegetarian my trial dish was the Mushroom Risotto and it tasted absolutely delicious. We had no left overs here to try those famous Risotto Cakes, but decided to make some extra next time so there would be a chance to try this.
As with all cookbooks is it hard to cater for the novice and the expert in the same book. Miller has chosen to be very specific in her instructions, which worked extremely well for me as a less experienced cook. The book fills a much needed gap in the market at a time of global recession and economic turn down. Cooking programmes have become very popular on TV but they often don't cater for people at the lower end of the budget.
The programmes and their related cook books tend to feature more expensive and fancy dishes. Kat Miller also chose a selection of healthy dishes, i. I hope this is just the beginning of a series of such cook books. I just had the most amazing dinner! I cooked my first two recipes from Delicious Meals for 1.
It was very affordable just as the title implies, as I already had most of the ingredients. I did substitute Panko for the breadcrumbs and cheated on the mushrooms, buying sliced gourmet! Everything was very easy though the risotto is a bit high maintenance because you do have to keep it stirring but well worth the wait and not difficult. I cook a lot, so had prepared for both recipes ahead of time garlic, onion, chicken prep. This is an excellent cookbook with lots of recipes I've never tried before. I would highly recommend it, but would say you should have a good level of cooking experience because some of the basic directions are not specific on times or amounts.
This time I took the author's recommendation and also paired it with a dry Sauvignon Blanc! I bought this cook book--my first on a Kindle. I love it. Prop the Kindle up on the counter and follow the recipe. It's great and easily done.
I have friends and family that are either veggie only or gluten intolerant foodies, so I was especially happy with Kit's tips in that regard so that I can prepare meals everyone will enjoy without suffering taste. And I have never considered nutmeg on avocado--but it works! I bought a whole nutmeg and grated it right onto the avocado. It's as easy as maki I bought this cook book--my first on a Kindle.

It's as easy as making lemon zest. There are no more than a dozen meals in this book--but they will all become your favorites. Mar 03, Angela Estienne rated it it was amazing. Great cook book, great addition to any collection. The risotto and soups were my personal favorites. Easy to follow recipes, clear instructions are given for any level of cook.
Clear crisp photos which are always a bonus to any cookbook. The budgeting side and tips were an added extra the finished off this great book. Jan 06, Karen Black rated it it was amazing. The money saved, by following the recommendations in this cookbook, will probably pay for the book, after a couple of meals. The author lists the ingredients, i.
She even includes color photographs of what the preparations should look like along the way. I found the pictures extremely helpful. Miller uses herbs, and recommends growing your own, since homegrown herbs are not only fresher, but also less expensive than purchasing them at the store. I grow my own herbs, and know she is absolutely correct.
She advocates cooking from scratch, rather than buying prepared foods, because in addition to saving money, you know what you're eating. The food is fresh, preservatives are limited or non-existent, and the final product is a healthier meal. There are some unique recipes, along with some old favorites, and the food types vary from light fare to hearty meals, with soups and deserts included. I'm planning to make Strawberry Sorbet for our grandchildren this weekend! The recipes look quite tasty and I'm going to enjoy trying some of them out, but this book had two main flaws for me - one, as evident by the Euros in the title, the prices and some of the ingredients are not relevant in Australia, where many of the northern hemisphere ingredients are very expensive or near-impossible to get, though that shouldn't be a problem anywhere else.
The second issue I have is that the recipes are particularly time consuming and, to me, my time is at a premium. On the plus side, it advocates cooking and eating with wine, so it's certainly my kind of cook book.
