This morning we end our journey of Etruscan discovery at another of this mysterious civilisation's 12 key cities, Orvieto, whose ancient ruins lie in eerie underground caves. A glimpse of this sparse subterranean city can be had from the family-owned Well of the Cave, a secret passageway leading to nine caves underneath a traditional pottery shop!
With the city built from the precipitous chunk of volcanic rock on which it sits, Orvieto looks almost at one with the red-hued rock — although the cathedral is a stand-out feature. After our discovery of Orvieto we stop at a rural restaurant, known locally as an agriturismo, to sample a menu of traditional fare grown in this fertile land at the heart of Italy. The price of this holiday is per person based on two people sharing a twin room. Single rooms are subject to availability at the relevant supplement.

View more about MS Charles Dickens. View more about MS Jane Austen. Why we love this ship We are delighted to present the brand new, five-star MS Oscar Wilde — a truly world-class vessel. Driving is really not that bad - just stay to your right as the left lane is REALLY just for passing here and you will be fine. Sometimes it can be more of a hassle trying to get a flight into Perugia Also, taking the train depends on where you are staying I always recommend to people who are nervous about driving up to take the train to Foligno , which is the major train station in Umbria not Perugia and rent a car from the Avis located there at the station.
I have friends with mobility problems and want the Hire car from Foligno later in the week Perugia is served by the small Sant'Egidio airport which is connected by Ryanair from London Stanstead.
If you don't want to worry about luggage restriction , could fly direct Toronto to Pescara on the east coast once a week and drive via Ascoli Piceno and Stop at the first Umbrian villa ge of Castelluccio di Norcia. There could not be a better start. If not applicable, consider also to land at Bologna and drive via Cesena - Sansepolcro along the E Rome and Florence are a bit closer but driving from the east is relaxing compared to the other side.
Welcome to Umbria
Here is the website of Perugia's airport so you can see which flights are available. I doubt you will be able to fly from Rome or Florence. Driving from Rome FCO to Perugia is really easy as you don't go into the city at all and your way North is well indicated. Another place in Umbria with a good train service from Rome and with car rental near the train station is Orvieto.
